।9.28।। English Translation - Swami Gambirananda 9.28 Thus, you will become free from bondage in the form of actions which are productive of good and bad results. Havng your mind inbued with the yoga of renunciation and becoming free, you will attain Me. English Translation - Swami Sivananda 9.28 Thus shalt thou be freed from the bonds of actions yielding good and evil fruits; with the mind steadfast in the Yoga of renunciation, and liberated, thou shalt come unto Me. English Translation - Dr. S. Sankaranarayan 9.28. Thus, you shall be freed from the good and evi results which are the action-bonds. Having your innate nature immersed in the Yoga of renunciation and (thus) being fully liberated you shall attain Me. English Commentary - Swami Sivananda 9.28 शुभाशुभफलैः from good and evil fruits? एवम् thus? मोक्ष्यसे (thou) shalt be freed? कर्मबन्धनैः from the bonds of actions? संन्यासयोगयुक्तात्मा with the mind steadfast in the Yoga of renunciation? विमुक्तः liberated? माम् to Me? उपैष्यसि (thou) shalt come.Commentary Evam Thus -- when you thus offer everything to Me.Renunciation of the fruits of all works is Sannyasa. He who is eipped with the mind steadfast in the Yog of renunciation is Sannyasayogayuktatma. The act of offering everything unto the Lord, constitutes the Yoga of renunciation. It is also Yoga as it is an action. With the mind endowed with renunciation and Yoga thou shalt be freed from good and evil results while yet living and thou shalt come unto Me when this body falls. An objector says? Then the Lord has love and hatred as He confers His grace on His devotees only and not on others. The answer is? Not so. The Lord is impartial and is beyond love and hatred. His grace flows towards all. But the devotee recieves it freely as he has opened his heart to the reception of His grace. This is explained in the next verse. English Translation of Sanskrit Commentary By Sri Shankaracharya's 9.28 By dedicating to Me evam, thus; maksyase, you will become free; karma-bandhanaih, from bondage in the form of actions-actions themselves being the bonds; subha-asubha-phalaih, which are productive of good and bad results-i.e. from actions that have desirable (subha) and undesireable (asubha) results (phala). Sannyasa, renunciation, is that which results from dedication (of actions) to Me, and that is also yoga since it involves actions. He who has his mind (atma) endowed (yukta) with that yoga of renunciation (sannyasa-yoga) is sannyasa-yoga-yukta-atma. You, being such, having your mind endowed with the yoga of renunciation, and vimuktah, becoming free from the bonds of actions evern while living; upaisyasi, will attain, come; mam, to Me, when this body falls. In that case the Lord is possessed of love and hatred inasmuch as He favours the devotees, and not others? That is not so: English Translation of Commentary - Dr. S. Sankaranarayan 9.27-28 Yat karosi etc. Subhasubha - etc. Because the performers of sacrifices intending other deities have in their mind only limited purpose, and [hence] belitle the [principal] result [of the sacrifice etc.]; therefore all [actions] you should offer, by the method advised above, to Me i.e., consider them to be absorbed in Me (or to be born of Me). This is the renunciation-Yoga. Extensively it has already been made almost ite clear. English Translation of Ramanuja's Sanskrit Commentary 9.28 Thus, eipped with a mind which is firmly set in Yoga, called Sannyasa, considering yourself as one whose delight lies in being a subsidiary (Sesa) to Me and subject to My control and all acts to be My worship, and engaging yourself in secular and Vedic actions with such an attitude, you will free yourself from countless bonds, called ancient Karmas, productive of auspicious and inauspicious results which stands as a hindrance preventing you from attaining Me. Freed from them, you shall come to Me only. Listen now, to My supreme nature which transcends the world: Commentary - Chakravarthi Ji You will be liberated from the bondage of karma in the form of unlimited sinful and pious reactions. The sruti says, bhaktir asya bhajanam tad ihamutropadhi-nairasyenaivamusmin manah-kalpanam etad eva ca naiskarmyam Bhakti is worship of the Lord, concentrating the mind on him, renouncing all material desires for enjoyment in this world and the next. It destroys all karmas. Gopala Tapani Upanisad 1.15 You, with mind engaged in renunciation of the results of action (sannyasa yoga), will not only be liberated, but being preeminent among the liberated souls (vimuktah), will attain me. You will come near me to serve me directly. Smrti says: muktanam api siddhanam narayana-parayanah sudurlabhah prasantatma kotisv api mahamune O great sage, among many millions who are liberated and perfect in knowledge of liberation, one may be a devotee of Lord Narayana, or Krishna. Such devotees, who are fully peaceful, are extremely rare. SB 6.14.5 Sukadeva has also said: muktim dadati karhicit sma na bhakti-yogam Those engaged in getting the Lord’s favor attain liberation from the Lord very easily, but He does not very easily give the opportunity to render direct service unto Him. SB 5.6.18 This goal, with direct service to me, is far superior to liberation That is indicated in this verse. Rudra Vaishnava Sampradaya - Commentary Now Lord Krishna explains the benefits one will receive by offering everything as an act of devotion to Him as declared in the previous verse. By performing all Vedically authorised actions as an offering to the Supreme Lord one will no longer be bound by the bondage of karma or reactions to actions which results in both positive and negative consequences. By offering everything one thinks and does to the Supreme Lord, ones ongoing connection to karma is permanently neutralised and severed by the Supreme Lord Himself and under His indomitable shelter with ones mind endowed with the sublime state of renznciation one will undoubtedly attains Him. Brahma Vaishnava Sampradaya - Commentary The words evam moksyase means by performing all actions in this way one will by liberated refers to the devotees of the Supreme Lord who do everything exclusively for His pleasure and propitiate Him in the true sense of worship whether they are knowledgeable or not. One who is not knowledgeable of the Supreme Lord is deluded and on receiving material boons from pandering to lesser gods is deported back to the material worlds of unawareness after enjoying the fruits of their merits. These are deluded activities of the deluded who are not only unaware of the absolute position of the Supreme Lord Krishna but also are in the darkness of ignorance regarding the Him being the ultimate reality. Thus in conclusion without knowing the paramount supremacy of the Supreme Lord Krishna as the controller of all creation and all existence and all the demigods and every other god; all knowledge no matter how profound or esoteric is superfluous without any foundation because it is not understood in the correct context as being connected to Him. Shri Vaishnava Sampradaya - Commentary The words sannyasa-yoga means the individual consciousness attaining communion with theultimate consciousness by the complete surrendering and offering of everything one has and is unto the Supreme Lord Krishna. One whose nature has found refuge in such inner resignation is known as a yuktatma or a renunciate of the eternal soul. Thus constantly meditating on the atma or soul as being the eternal part of themselves and the Supreme Lord and realizing that they are totally under His control they perform all actions whether they are natural, scriptural, daily or occasional as direct intended propitiation to Him. Thus thinking and acting in this way they are released from the fetters of all karma or reactions to actions from the immeasurable past which barricades the path leading to the Supreme Lord from time immemorial and being freed from them attain the eternal spiritual worlds in association with the Supreme Lord. Next here about His transcendental and paramount nature beyond the sway of material nature.
